FAQ

What is the Kiwi Inline Hockey League (KIHL)?

The KIHL is an Inline Hockey competition that has teams formed using a draft. All players will be selected by team managers from the total pool of available players with the hopes that this creates the most even teams and therefore best competition.

Who is eligible to play in the Inline Hockey Draft League?

The KIHL is open to all players 17 years of age and over.

How many teams will there be?

We are looking to expand to 12 teams split across 2 divisions for season 4 of KIHL (pending registration numbers)

What is the cost?

Any player who pays the complete registration cost by the 1/12/24 will only pay the early bird registration fee of $360. Players who complete payment after the 1/12/24 but before 16/2/25 will be subject to the full fee of $400 ($200 due before 1/12/24, and $200 due before 16/2/25).

How many games will I get?

This is dependent on the number of teams playing in the competition. Our aim is to give each team a minimum of 15 “regular season” games.

What is the game format / points system?
Regular Season games will be played with 2x 16-minute stop-time periods, 2 minutes for half-time, and 1x 1 minute timeout per team, per half. Tied games will go to a 5-minute sudden death overtime period. Games that remain tied after the overtime period will go to a 3-man shootout. If 3 players aren’t enough to decide a game, it will be one shot per team until one team scores and one doesn’t.

Game points will be as follows:
3 Points for a regulation win
2 Points for an overtime/shootout win
1 Point for an overtime/shootout loss
0 Points for a regulation loss

What rules are games played under?
Games will be played under World Skate rules except where they conflict with what is outlined above or where the organisers specify a deviation from the World Skate 2021 Rulebook. A call-up is permitted when a franchise is missing a Division 1 player and so requires a division 2 player to fill their roster. In the event of a call-up a Division 2 player is permitted to play for both the Division 1 AND Division 2 teams.
A swap happens when a manager decides that for whatever reason, a division 2 player is a better fit for the division 1 team for a game/series of games. When a swap occurs, a division 1 player isput into the division 2 roster in exchange for a division 2 player moving up to division one. In the case of a swap, a player is only permitted to play in either the division 1 OR division 2 team, not both.
